Sal Davis & Maia von Lekow at Tamarind
December 30, 2010 | one comment
On stage together for the first time ever I was performing with my father Sal Davis.
Set on the water front at The Tamarind, Mombasa, my father and myself entertained fans on a balmy night with a scenic setting of Mombasa Old town infront of us. It was beautiful!
I had always heard about my father being a fantastic singer/entertainer but had never seen him performing until 3 years ago in Dar es salaam. He inspired me.. somehow, something that I had been looking for as a performer, something that I feared or something that I could not look passed was found that night watching him move around the stage, interact with his crowd and jiggle his feet in a salsa motion once in a while.
We have had our differences no doubt, he has let me down so many times as a father and I thought that this last show might be a reunion into my early past when he would agree to do something, or promise something and never turn up or follow it through, but to give him the benefit of the doubt he was there and eager to perform looking sleek in his red satin shirt, black suit and white hair. He had not performed in over 2 years and felt that people had forgotten about him. This show I think brought his spirits back.
sal-davis-poster_2For me, myself and I, it was a day in my history that I will never forget!
